Matt Guss of Fauxtauxgrafix shares some behind the scenes info on a recent shoot with one year-old French Bulldog, Roxy.
French Bulldog puppies’ adorableness aside, we’re here to talk about light metering. Matt finds while you may be able to get by by chimping in other situations, with pet photography “light-meters are critically invaluable.”
His Sekonic L-308 allowed him to meter the scene before Roxy’s shoot began so once she arrived, he wouldn’t have to test her patience setting anything up. It also allowed him “to capture consistent perfect exposures,” impossible to determine using the camera’s LCD since he was shooting in RAW and Roxy is a white dog.
